Night the Previous
(Wed, Apr 02, 2008)
Ate crackers and cheese. Watched Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic part 1. (I like it better than the Christmas one; I haven't read any of his books so the whole world in there is foreign -- and not just Brit-foreign, which can be foreign enough -- and this one is a bit more accessible.) Read Shirer's Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. (I've been meaning to get to this book for some time. I don't want to give anything away, but the Hitler character is a bit of a wacko.) Smoked a Padilla Hybrid Robusto. (I think maybe the torpedo is a better size for this cigar.) The air was still.
Night the Previous
(Thu, Apr 03, 2008)
Ate Chinese food. Drank mineral water. Watched Terry Pratchett's The Colour of Magic part 2. (It was pretty good overall, but I didn't believe in Cohen the Barbarian's immediate loyalty toward Rincewind and Two Flower.) Read Rise and Fall of the Third Reich (RFotTR). Smoked an Oliveros Classic Churchill. (Still not a big fan of Indonesian tobacco.) The air was brisk. The car was warm.
Night the Previous
(Fri, Apr 04, 2008)
Ate chicken (this is fascinating, right?). Watched The Riches and South Park. (Good but I liked last week's SP better, with Kenny tripping out on cat urine into Heavy Metal land -- oh what I wouldn't give for that drug to be real oh...) Read RaFotTR. Smoked a Rocky Patel Fusion Churchill. Wore sweatpants and my cool-ass smoking jacket.
Night the Previous
(Sat, Apr 05, 2008)
Ate hamburger. Drank Guinness. Watched NHL hockey (Flyers-Devils; the Flyers won their way into the playoffs, buddy! I'm not your buddy, friend! I'm not your friend, guy! I'm not your guy, buddy!). Didn't read anything. Smoked a La Aurora Double Corona.
Day the Previous
(Sun, Apr 06, 2008)
Went to Cabela's, out in the PA sticks, for shotguns and critters. They had a stuffed nine foot tall brown bear there. (How could anyone shoot such a beautiful creature?) Also polar bears, moose, lions, an elephant, and so on with the dead things. About six hundred deer (many only from the neck up). And beautiful double barrel shotguns, the kind old farmer's wives lug from behind the door and steer into the face of b-movie heroes; and also the kind British royalty and Dick Cheney use to strike at the fierce heart of the turkey, and at the elusive tail of the quail. I bought a pair of pants.
Night the Previous
(Sun, Apr 06, 2008)
Ate buffalo chicken pizza. Watched the new Torchwood and the new Doctor Who. (Still not a huge fan of David Tennant, and not a huge fan of Catherine Tate either, but they've promised us Sontarans this season -- Sontarans!) Read this week's Economist. Smoked a Gurkha Black Puro churchill.
Night the Previous
(Mon, Apr 07, 2008)
Ate a turkey sandwich with lettuce and tomato on wheat bread. Watched NHL hockey (Flyers-Penguins) and Sixty Minutes. Read Rise and Fall of the Third Reich (with some growing concerns about the bias of the author: in chapter four he misrepresents the philosophy of Hegel and Neitzsche in order to help indict the whole of 19th century German culture -- and I hate when people do that -- and then -- then! -- the slurs and slanders he hurls against Wagner... simply unforgivable). Smoked an Oliva Serie G toro.
Night the Previous
(Tue, Apr 08, 2008)
Ate chicken parmesan. Watched a terrible movie called Outpost (zombie Nazis vs British mercenaries, it felt more like a video game than a movie). Read Rise and Fall of the Third Reich (still rising... slowly, slowly rising...). Smoked a CI Legends Yellow Label (Pepin Garcia).
Night the Previous
(Wed, Apr 09, 2008)
Ate a cheesesteak. Watched the recent Sweeney Todd adaptation with Johnny Depp (the movie was with him, not me), which was surprisingly good, even with all the singing. Read RaFotTR (still enjoying it but I wish Shirer would show a little restraint and keep himself and his opinions out of it -- did anyone edit this thing?). Smoked a La Aurora double corona.
Night the Previous
(Thu, Apr 10, 2008)
Ate tuna, lettuce, tomato on some sort of roll with a toothpick stuck through it. Watched nothing. Read nothing. Smoked a Carlos Torano Virtuoso robusto (awesome).
Since this is the trend today, I'll slap up mine

Night the Previous
(Fri, Apr 11, 2008)
Ate pizza. Saw The Bank Job (which was very good). Read some Third Reich. (Shirer cannot refrain from injecting his own prejudices into his book -- e.g. a man is never a "homosexual" to Shirer, he is always a "homosexual pervert", as in (paraphrasing) "The SA brownshirts were riddled with thugs and homosexual perverts".) Smoked nothing.
Night the Previous
(Sat, Apr 12, 2008)
Ate pasta. Drank Scotch whiskey and Guinness and coffee and something green. Smoked a Gurkha Triple Ligero toro and a Jericho robusto. Watched South Park. Read nothing.
Night the Previous
(Sun, Apr 13, 2008)
Consumption: Ate chicken and ramen noodle. Drank Guinness. Smoked a Rocky Patel Connecticut torpedo. Entertainment: Watched The Masters golf tournament, and the new Doctor Who (in which the Doctor struggles with fixed points in time; if one could go through history averting catastrophes and saving lives would one feel compelled to do so, responsible to those lives? But what if one could only watch?). Read this week's Economist (lousy US economy, weak dollar, etc. etc.), and some Third Reich.
Night the Previous
(Mon, Apr 14, 2008)
Consumed roast beast with baked potato, Diet Pepsi, coffee. Smoked an Oliveros XL Double Corojo. Entertained myself with Abbott and Costello Meet the Invisible Man before Meet the Press, and then back and forth between The Masters and the Flyers game. Finally... The Simpsons and television overdose. Read some Rise and Fall of the Third Reich after that (still rising).
Night the Previous
(Tue, Apr 15, 2008)
Consumed Mexican food with belimed cerveza. Smoked an overpriced Cohiba. Watched Spider-Man 3 (with Rifftrax commentary -- and even then what a god-awful movie, what an embarrassment for Sam Raimi). Also read some Third Reich.
Night the Previous
(Wed, Apr 16, 2008)
Ate some Chinese food (lemon chicken). Smoked a Perdomo Slow-Aged Lot 826 robusto. Watched the Flyers beat the Caps. Read some more Third Reich (in which the Reichstag is burned -- Marinus! Marinus! Du warst es nicht! -- and Hitler and his core of Nazi nutters really begin to consolidate power).
Night the Previous
(Thu, Apr 17, 2008)
Consumed chicken, potato, etc. Burned a Padilla Obsidian Belicoso (fantastic). Watched The Riches. Read Third Reich. Bought a laptop (put a Penryn T9300 and 3GB RAM in it so I can merrily run Oracle, JBoss, Glassfish, Eclipse, NetBeans, VMWare, Firefox, and OpenOffice (yes, all at the same time, don't ask) and still have room for Amarok -- nice!).
Night the Previous
(Fri, Apr 18, 2008)
Ate Italian hoagie sandwich and Munchos. Drank Apollinaris mineral water. Smoked a 5 Vegas Miami. Watched NHL hockey (Flyers-Caps game 4). Read some Third Reich. Yawn.
Night the Previous
(Sat, Apr 19, 2008)
Ate pizza and beer (pizza and beer?, pizza and beer!?). Burned a La Aurora double corona. Watched some South Park then went out to see Horton Hears a Who! [sic]. (It was pretty much terrible, and disappointing for a life-long Seuss fan. I understand they had to extend from the Seuss material in order to fill out a 90 min movie; I just wish they hadn't filled it out with complete shit. And why must they hire name celebrities to provide the voices for these cartoons? Do they really believe Steve Carell and Jim Carrey help to sell something like Horton? Does anybody actually say, "Oooh! Ace Ventura and that idiot from The Office together at last in animal form! Let's get me some of that!" Why not save some money and hire some schlubs with funny voices like Matt Groening did? Most people don't have a clue who Dan Castellaneta or Billy West are, but they sure know their voices.) And then, a little sleepy, read some Third Reich.
Day the Previous
(Sun, Apr 20, 2008)
Consumed turkey, potato, etc. Chicken soup. A bagel. Some Munchos (I think I hate Munchos). Smoked a Rocky Patel Sun Grown Torpedo and a Rocky Patel Vintage '92 Torpedo (both excellent). Drank some Guinness. Watched some NHL and the new Doctor Who (a nice old-school style episode: the TARDIS arrives on a distant planet where some shenanigans are going on, and the Doctor promptly involves himself. Why mess with a winning formula?). Read this week's Economist and some Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.
Night the Previous
(Mon, Apr 21, 2008)
Ate a turkey sandwich with vile Munchos (I've still got half a bag of them -- I can't just throw them away, can I?). Drank Perrier. Smoked a Gurkha Master's Select Robusto #4. Watched this week's Battlestar Galactica (which was actually a half-decent episode, but even the holy-crap moments in BSG these days aren't as exciting or as startling as they used to be; I just don't care about any of those people anymore, and I don't care if they find Earth. In fact, I hope they don't find it because they'll be all, "Yuck, computers, destroy them all!" and we'll be like, "But I needs my internets!", and they'll be all, "Internets killed my mother and blew up my homeworld!" and so on, just a really big annoying conflict with the space-men.) Also, I read some Third Reich.
Night the Previous
(Tue, Apr 22, 2008)
Consumed another turkey sandwich, turkey chile, Munchos. Smoked a Joya de Nicaragua Antano Consul (practically knocked me unconscious). Watched the Flyers blow it (blarch! growl!). Read Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.
Night the Previous
(Wed, Apr 23, 2008)
Ate some sort of pasta dish with some sort of meat product dressed in some sort of cheese sauce that smelled like vomit but tasted delicious (aint it always that way?). Smoked a stinky-ass Camacho 1962 Corona. Watched the Flyers beat the Caps in a Game 7 overtime (not malodorous at all!).
Night the Previous
(Thu, Apr 24, 2008)
Consumed Canton Duck (delicious!) and Perrier. Watched the Rifftrax version of Cloverfield (and I still don't know what the hell that thing was or why it killed the Statue of Liberty). Read some Third Reich. Shopped for a KVM switch.
Night the Previous
(Fri, Apr 25, 2008)
Consumed food. Smoked big puff-stick. Watched big TV. Read big book.
Night the Previous
(Sat, Apr 26, 2008)
Pizza. Gurkha Regent Toro. South Park, The Riches. Rise and Fall of the Third Reich.
Night the Previous
(Sun, Apr 27, 2008)
Ate chicken, drank Perrier, smoked a big-ass Gurkha Fuerte Torpedo Grande. Watched a boring, annoying Battlestar Galactica (ooooh, religious strife! How like our *own* world! And what was with that single 5 second scene on Starbuck's ship? Did they just forget to edit it out? And also, also I was hoping that Chief Petty Officer would hang himself or something -- go mope on your own time, jackass!) and I watched the new Doctor Who (featuring the return of one of my long-long-ago favorite villains, the Sontarans -- I hope they kick Earth's ass next week!). Also watched some Flyers hockey. Read this week's Economist. Ass.
Night the Previous
(Mon, Apr 28, 2008)
Had some chicken and ramen noodle and a little Guinness. Smoked a Joya de Nicaragua Antano Robusto. Watched National Treasure: Book of Secrets (which was about as good as the original -- not great but entertaining enough to endure despite Nicholas Cage's wooden acting and some absurd plot points). Installed Ubuntu 8.04 on my new laptop (why Firefox 3, why? How am I to live without a del.icio.us plugin? What madness is this?). Read some Third Reich.
Night the Previous
(Tue, Apr 29, 2008)
Tuna sandwich and Herr's Kettle Cooked Chips (the Dark ones, which are to Munchos as Alex Trebek is to Howie Mandel). Burned a CAO Black VR Mural. Watched the Flyers game. Read some Third Reich.
Night the Previous
(Wed, Apr 30, 2008)
Ate me some Kung Po! Shrimp roll! Sugar cookie! Smoked me up a 5 Vegas Serie A toro (awesome!). Saw Street Kings (terrible! No more Keanu Reeves, ever, none, enough already!). Read me up some Third Reich pages!
